The Whole Hog - May 2021

Red wine at a romantic dinner

Hooray for May 17th - Are You Ready!!

Our May Newsletter has been deliberately delayed to coincide with the Prime Minister’s confirmation yesterday (10th May) that from next Monday (May 17th) we can all go bonkers….

OK, maybe we shouldn’t go bonkers, but finally we can hug in public, indoor hospitality is back, weddings can grow in size and much more. This is great news for all of us, but especially great news for all those businesses and employees that rely on our spending to help them survive and earn a living.

So, the message I think is clear. Without going bonkers, let’s all do our bit to support the many thousands of businesses up and down the country, indeed the United Kingdom, that really do need our help.

Let’s not forget, in 2020 over 10,000 pubs, bars and restaurants permanently closed as a result of Covid. Whatever we can all do collectively to stop that trend is vital for our economy, the future of our hospitality industry (of which we are rightly very proud) and for the financial and mental wellbeing of the many tens of thousands of hard-working hospitality employees.

I for one am certainly doing my bit!

Lunch reservations on the 17th, 18th, and 19th – business meetings of course – will help get the ball rolling.

Wild Boar also has three tremendous private dinners booked on the 25th, 26th, and 27th May at Dukes Hotel, with enquiries for In-Person events coming thick and fast. All of this is excellent news for the industry, and I would like to personally thank each and every one of our clients for this tremendous support.

So, whether you are thinking of a surprise birthday dinner, an upmarket wine tasting and quiz, a corporate team meeting or entertaining clients, please think about how you can turn this opportunity into an event that will support the industry.

Wild Boar would be delighted to help you. We are partnering with many chefs, restaurants, venues, and hotels – whatever your budget or your event, let’s discuss how we can make this a truly memorable experience.

Our £50/couple Virtual Wine Tastings on April 22nd and May 6th proved to be great evenings of fun, frivolity, excellent wine and stimulating conversation. Those guests that joined will certainly be back for more, four delicious wines, yummy cheeses and yours truly as host – what more could you want for £50!!

We have more of these planned, and we still have spaces available on the 20th May – give me a call or drop me an email if you are interested.

In closing, I urge you all to do our bit for the hospitality industry, starting May 17th – let’s book tables, invite friends and colleagues, and get ready to go just a little bit bonkers!

Cheers!

David Alexander

Wines Around the World

The BBC reports a bottle of French wine that orbited the Earth for more than a year has been put up for sale at Christie's, with an estimated sale price of £720,000.

The bottle of Pétrus was aged in space for more than 400 days, after Space Cargo Unlimited sent 12 bottles to the International Space Station in November 2019. The co-founder and CEO of Space Cargo Unlimited, Nicolas Gaume, said that they aimed to "help invent the agriculture and food we need for tomorrow on Earth" by examining the effects of zero-gravity.
